Q2 Check In on 2025 Goals

I’m reporting in again on my 2025 goals I shared back in January. If you’ve been reading this blog for a bit you may recall that I promised to check in with you quarterly to give an update On how I’ve been doing. I have three main goals for the year, and spoiler alert - I’m doing great on one, meh on the next, and a complete fail on the last. You can stop reading now if you want! But if you like all the details, the scoop and whatnot, then keep reading.

Here is how things have gone these last three months:

I promised to write a blog a week in 2025. Q2 grade - A+, which matches how I did in Q1! This has definitely been the highlight of my goals this year. I still haven’t missed a week so far, despite the fact that I still don’t have a weekly routine to actually write these. I continue to find spare moments here and there over the weekend or during the week to draft an article, and the inspiration is almost always based on something that’s just happened or happening right then. I thought I’d be more organized by this point, but it turns out, the weekly blog and my approach to it is still a work in progress.

My next goal was to exercise regularly and take care of myself. In Q1 I gave myself a C and in Q2 I’m giving myself a C-. I continue to only find time to exercise sporadically and I struggle with managing stress. I think that, once again, I need a routine I can follow to be more consistent. This is something I will work on in Q3 because I can see the difference when I do exercise and when I don’t. I just do better all around when I take time for this.

The third goal was to be more social - to do better engaging with other people. In Q2 I realized that I set a goal with no way to measure it (not very SMART), but I also didn’t establish a way to measure it in Q2. So once again I don’t really know how to give myself a grade on my big goal, engaging better with others, because I completely failed at my sub-goal of giving myself a way to measure this. But here’s something I’ve been realizing - writing is a lonely way to spend time, so this is an area I do want to focus on. We’re actually meeting friends in half an hour!

At the beginning of Q2 I said my goal was to get straight As on these goals, just like in grade school. I didn’t achieve that goal, but I am proud of accomplishing at least one thing I set out to do!

That said, it's clear I still have work to do, especially when it comes to figuring out how to measure what matters for my social goal. For now, I'm just going to keep focusing on writing consistently and making small, consistent efforts toward my other goals. It's a journey, not a sprint, right? I'll check in again next quarter to let you know how it's going.
